A bowl of warm water, one little drop of mild dish soap (Dawn is our go-to!), and a soft towel. That's the whole kit, girl. No fancy cleaner, no trip to the jeweler, no gadget you have to order and wait around for.
Swirl your earrings in the soapy water for a minute or two, then gently work your fingers around any little grooves. Rinse them off, and here's the part that actually matters most... dry them all the way with the towel before you set them down.
Water can be sneaky if it sits on metal too long, so that final dry is doing way more than you'd think!
Your earrings live right up against your skin all day long, which means they quietly collect the same stuff your skin does. A little sweat, a little of whatever lotion or perfume you swiped on that morning, the general dust of a normal week.
None of that is anything you did wrong! It's just what happens when jewelry does its job of being worn and loved.
Studs and huggies especially tuck grime into those tiny spots you can't see at a glance. A quick wash every now and then keeps them looking as bright as the day they showed up on your doorstep.
If you're anything like us, you sleep and shower in your gold filled pieces and go months without giving them a second thought. That's the whole point of gold filled and sterling silver... they can handle real life!
Then one day you catch a little haze or a smudge around the base of a stud in the mirror. That's your cue, girl. Not a crisis, just a two-minute wash and you're back to brand new.
Our secure back studs and huggies are the ones we wear nonstop, so they're also the ones that love an occasional dip in the soapy water the most.
Tuck your pieces into an airtight bag when they're off and they'll oxidize slower, especially sterling silver, which tarnishes a touch quicker than gold filled. Little thing, big payoff!
Be a little mindful about lotions and perfumes touching your jewelry, and give things a quick rinse-and-dry after a swim if there was chlorine involved.
The more you baby your jewelry, the longer it hangs around. But even the low-maintenance among us (no judgment, we see you!) can get so much happy wear out of gold filled and sterling silver with almost nothing more than that bowl of soapy water and a towel.
