A little dish soap and warm water is all it takes to bring your favorite pieces back to that just-opened-the-box feeling. Girl, you already have everything you need sitting right there on the kitchen sink. Ten minutes tonight and your earrings, necklaces, and rings look fresh again!
Your jewelry lives a FULL life with you. It goes to work, sits under a sweater collar, catches a spritz of perfume, and rides along through your whole day. That's exactly how it should be worn!
The reason we clean it is soooo simple. Lotions, sweat, and everyday grime settle into chains and around clasps over time, and a gentle wash lifts all of that right off. Left on the metal, that moisture and residue are what slowly wear a piece down.
Anklets and rings tend to collect the most since they're closest to all the action. Give those a little extra love when you do your rinse!
Grab some Dawn, warm water, and a soft towel. That's genuinely the whole list, we promise!
Mild dish soap is our go-to because it cuts through oils without being harsh on the metal. Skip anything abrasive, and be careful with the same lotions and perfumes that made the piece dull in the first place. Those chemicals take their toll over time!
If you want something that lives right in your jewelry box, an anti-tarnishing cloth wipes gold and silver back to shine in seconds. It's especially handy for sterling silver, which oxidizes a little faster than gold-filled and loves a quick buff between washes.
Dry it. Really, truly dry it!
Water sitting on metal for long stretches is no friend of your jewelry, so after your soap-and-water rinse, pat each piece with your towel. Let it finish air-drying before it goes back on or into storage. This one little step does more for the life of your jewelry than almost anything else.
When you're not wearing a piece, tuck it into an airtight bag. That keeps air and moisture from doing their slow work. It's the same reason every piece we send out at Hey June is made to last a good long while in the first place!
Whenever you notice a little dullness or a mark around a clasp, that's your cue! For most of us that lands somewhere around once a month, and more like every couple of weeks for the rings and anklets that see the most wear.
Because our jewelry is 14k gold-filled, sterling silver, or vermeil, it holds up to this routine beautifully. Wash it, dry it, wear it. That's the whole rhythm, and your pieces will keep showing up looking like new!
